GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2: Confirmed Status and 2027 Rumor

GTA 6 has not been announced for Nintendo Switch 2. Rockstar’s current platform list names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and those are the versions scheduled for November 19, 2026.

A 2027 Switch 2 port is circulating as a rumor. It does not appear on Rockstar’s GTA VI site, preorder pages, support documentation, or Newswire. Switch 2 owners should not treat it as a release date or buy a preorder from anyone claiming to sell that version.

The confirmed GTA 6 platforms

Rockstar’s current platform support page says GTA 6 can be preordered for:

• Xbox Series X|S

The official GTA VI page also links only to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo is not listed in the June 2026 preorder announcement or its supported storefronts.

That tells us what is happening at launch. It does not prove that Rockstar could never add another platform later.

Where the Switch 2 rumor came from

Reports published around the end of June claimed that a Switch 2 version was in development or being discussed for 2027. The claim spread through gaming sites and social posts, sometimes losing the word “rumor” along the way.

The evidence has not moved with the headlines. One current report attributes the 2027 claim to a leaker, while an earlier GameSpot report described alleged testing. Neither is a statement from Rockstar, Take-Two, or Nintendo.

Testing is also not the same as shipping. Publishers can evaluate a platform, prototype a build, or hold commercial discussions without approving a public product.

Confirmed, reported, and unknown

This table is the safest way to read the story. The confirmed column comes from Rockstar. The rest should not be promoted into fact without a company announcement.

Can Switch 2 technically run GTA 6?

Nobody outside the companies involved can answer that from public evidence. GTA 6 has not been demonstrated on Switch 2, and Rockstar has not published system targets for an unannounced port.

A retailer placeholder, age-rating entry without matching publisher confirmation, anonymous post, or mock box image is not enough by itself.

Should Switch 2 owners wait?

Wait if GTA 6 is not urgent and Switch 2 is already the system you want for other games. An unannounced port costs nothing to wait for, as long as you are comfortable missing the November launch.

Why a later port would not be unprecedented

Rockstar often expands platform availability after an initial release, but history cannot confirm this specific port. GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption, and the GTA Trilogy have all appeared on different platform combinations over time. Each release was a separate commercial and technical decision.
