GTA 6 Gameplay Reveal: What the 26-Minute Extended Look Shows

Quick answer

Rockstar's 26:48 GTA 6 Extended Look shows real PS5 gameplay systems, including combat, partner missions, switching, activities, and police chases.

Yes, Rockstar has now shown a substantial GTA 6 gameplay reveal. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look runs 26 minutes and 48 seconds and uses in-game footage captured on PlayStation 5. It shows HUD elements, combat, driving, character switching, activities, robberies, and police chases.

It is not one uninterrupted mission. Rockstar cuts between many sequences, so the reveal cannot answer every question about controls, performance, or failure states. But the old answer that GTA 6 only has short trailer fragments is now out of date.

What counts as confirmed gameplay now

SystemWhat the official footage showsWhat remains unknown
CombatCover movement, shooting, melee, slow-motion finishFinal difficulty, damage model, full weapon inventory
Jason and LuciaFast switching, joint missions, partner getawayEvery restriction on free switching
DrivingCars, bikes, boats, jet skis, street racingFinal handling options and assists
ActivitiesFishing, diving, basketball, workouts, parachuting, nightlifeRewards, progression, full activity list
Police responseWanted stars, chases, masks, changing escape conditionsExact rules at every star level
PerformanceCaptured on PlayStation 5Console model, frame rate, resolution modes

This table separates visible evidence from systems that press previews describe in more detail. The footage is the primary source. Preview reporting adds context, but it should not be presented as if every rule appears in the public video.

Jason and Lucia work as an active pair

The most important gameplay change is not the visual detail. It is the way the two protagonists stay active inside the same sequence.

In one getaway Lucia drives while the player returns fire as Jason. The partner is not waiting in a cutscene. In another moment the presentation switches from Lucia parachuting to Jason while their conversation continues. Rockstar also shows scenes where the pair separate and jobs that appear to center on one character.

That is stronger evidence than Trailer 2 provided. We can now say GTA 6 uses rapid switching and joint mission roles. We still cannot say switching is available at every moment, because the edited presentation never publishes a complete rule set.

Combat is slower and more physical

The opening mission shows Jason moving through cover, firing from protected positions, and pushing into a room. Another shot ends with a cinematic slow-motion camera. Melee footage shows Lucia dodging a punch and Jason wrestling at close range.

These scenes suggest more physical combat than GTA 5, but they do not prove every mechanic fans have attached to the footage. Rockstar has not released a damage table, control layout, enemy-AI breakdown, or final weapon wheel.

Our weapon-system fact check keeps carry limits and trunk storage in a separate evidence category until those rules are fully documented.

The wanted system has more information behind the stars

The public footage shows familiar wanted stars alongside new information icons and changing pursuit conditions. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson separately explained to IGN that crimes need a witness or alarm to be reported and that police can know details such as the vehicle, the protagonists’ appearance, and whether they were seen together.

That means escaping is no longer only about driving outside a search radius. Changing vehicles, changing appearance, using masks, or splitting the pair can matter when police have identified those details.

See our GTA 6 wanted system and Criminal Profile guide for the full fact-checked version. It also explains why Criminal Profile is not the same thing as the current wanted level.

What you can do outside missions

Rockstar packs the presentation with ordinary life and recreation. The footage includes basketball, fishing, diving, kayaking, jet skis, workouts, street racing, dirt bikes, parachuting, dancing, and strip-club scenes.

The range matters because it shows Leonida functioning as more than a backdrop for story missions. What we do not know is how these activities affect skills, money, relationships, or completion. A two-second fishing shot confirms fishing. It does not reveal a full progression system.

Is this an uncut gameplay walkthrough?

No. The presentation is an edited gameplay montage. It holds on several scenes long enough to reveal systems, but it jumps across locations, missions, and activities.

An uncut walkthrough would still be useful for four things:

  1. how a complete mission starts, branches, fails, and ends
  2. how long transitions and character switches take during ordinary play
  3. how the HUD and menus behave without editorial cuts
  4. how stable frame pacing looks through a continuous demanding sequence

Those are remaining questions, not reasons to dismiss what Rockstar has already shown.

What captured on PS5 means

Rockstar’s official page says the Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That establishes a real console capture target.

It does not identify base PS5 or PS5 Pro, and it does not state 30 FPS or 60 FPS. Edited video, motion blur, and online playback are not reliable substitutes for a published performance-mode list. The GTA 6 60 FPS tracker remains the correct place for that question.

What the reveal still does not answer

  • no GTA Online announcement
  • no PC release date
  • no final console graphics modes
  • no complete inventory or weapon-wheel tutorial
  • no exact map dimensions
  • no full list of interiors or businesses
  • no continuous mission from setup to escape

Rockstar has now shown how several major systems look in motion. The next useful step is not another argument about whether the footage is gameplay. It is a clean, sustained demonstration of how those systems connect during one ordinary play session.
