GTA 6 PC System Requirements: Do Not Upgrade for Fake Specs

Quick answer
There are no official GTA 6 PC system requirements yet. See which details remain unknown, why online spec tables fail, and when to upgrade.
There are no official GTA 6 PC system requirements. Rockstar currently lists GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, not PC, so every exact minimum or recommended spec table online is an estimate unless Rockstar later publishes it.
That makes the best buying advice unusually simple: do not build or upgrade a PC solely for GTA 6 yet. You cannot target a version that has not been announced, benchmarked, or given a configuration sheet.

Rockstar’s platform and edition support page currently names only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our GTA 6 PC release date tracker covers the timing question in more detail.

Why the PC spec tables you see are not official
Many unofficial pages use the layout of a real requirement sheet: processor, graphics card, memory, storage, and operating system. The formatting looks authoritative even when the numbers are guesses.
Those guesses often come from one of three weak shortcuts.
Matching console hardware
A writer approximates the CPU and GPU inside a current console, then selects desktop parts with similar theoretical performance. That does not reveal a PC requirement.
Console code targets a fixed hardware profile. A PC release must support many processors, drivers, memory configurations, background processes, displays, and graphics settings. Equivalent hardware on paper can behave differently in the finished port.
Scaling up from GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2
Older Rockstar releases can show how the company formats a requirements page. They cannot predict a game built for a different console generation more than a decade later.
Rockstar’s real GTA V PC requirements are useful only for GTA V. Copying their structure and inserting modern parts does not create GTA 6 evidence.
Treating a target frame rate as a requirement
A system that might reach 30 fps at one resolution and quality preset is not automatically the minimum. Rockstar could define minimum around another preset, use upscaling, require a certain DirectX feature level, or change performance during PC optimization.
Until settings, resolution targets, and test conditions exist, a GPU name by itself says very little.
Should you upgrade your PC for GTA 6 now?
Not if GTA 6 is the only reason. Hardware prices, product generations, drivers, and the game itself can change before any PC release. Buying early locks in cost and depreciation without guaranteeing the experience you want.
An upgrade can still make sense if it solves a problem today. If your current PC cannot run the games, editing software, or work tools you already use, judge the purchase on those needs. Treat future GTA 6 compatibility as unknown upside, not the promise that closes the sale.
Use this decision rule:
- Upgrade now for measurable needs you have now.
- Wait for official requirements if GTA 6 is the main purpose.
- After requirements arrive, wait for independent benchmarks if you care about a specific resolution or frame rate.
That last step matters because recommended specs do not always tell you whether they target 1080p, 1440p, 4K, ray tracing, 30 fps, or 60 fps.

What about storage and an SSD?
Rockstar has not published an official PC storage figure or SSD requirement for GTA 6. Console preload data, packaging claims, retailer placeholders, and estimates based on other open-world games should not be relabeled as PC requirements.
The final install can also differ from the download because of compression, language packs, patches, and temporary unpacking space. Our GTA 6 file size tracker keeps those claims separate and labels the evidence behind them.
It is reasonable to expect a modern open-world release to benefit from fast storage. It is not reasonable to invent a capacity, interface, or transfer-speed minimum before Rockstar names one.
Why a PC version can take separate work
Former Rockstar producer John Ricchio recently described platform work as a resource-prioritization problem, not evidence that the studio dislikes PC. In GamesRadar’s report on the interview, he argued that work assigned to one platform is work not being done somewhere else.
Ricchio left Rockstar years ago, so his explanation is informed former-employee context, not a current GTA 6 production announcement. Still, the basic tradeoff is easy to understand. A PC version adds hardware coverage, settings, input combinations, platform services, driver behavior, anti-cheat decisions, and performance testing.
That extra work is one reason a console release cannot be converted into a trustworthy PC spec table by matching components.
What an official requirements page should include
When Rockstar announces a PC version, look for a page on Rockstar Support, the Rockstar Store, or an authorized storefront. A useful listing should name:
- minimum and recommended processors
- minimum and recommended GPUs
- RAM and graphics memory expectations
- Windows version and feature requirements
- storage capacity and storage type
- launchers and account requirements
- target settings, resolution, or frame rate if provided
- supported upscaling and graphics features
Rockstar also provides a general guide to checking PC compatibility. Use that process only after GTA 6 has a real published requirement sheet.
FAQ
What are the minimum specs for GTA 6 on PC?
Rockstar has not announced them. Any current CPU, GPU, or RAM list is unofficial.
Will GTA 6 need 32 GB of RAM?
There is no official RAM requirement. Claims that 16 GB or 32 GB is mandatory are estimates.
Will GTA 6 require an SSD?
No official PC storage-type requirement has been published.
How much storage will GTA 6 need on PC?
The PC install size is unknown. Retail placeholders and console estimates are not a PC specification.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar has not announced a PC version. The confirmed November 19, 2026 launch is for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Can my PC run GTA 6?
Nobody can answer reliably until Rockstar publishes requirements and the PC build is tested. A parts list without those two pieces is only a guess.
The smart move is patience, not panic buying. Keep your current system if it meets your current needs. When Rockstar publishes a PC version and real specs, you can compare parts, prices, and benchmarks against an actual target instead of a viral table someone invented.
